RVing Family Enjoys Music and Travel
While
staying at the fairgrounds RV park, we met a delightful family who
are traveling around the country home schooling their two children
and playing some of the best foot tapping music we’ve heard
in a long time. The O’Brien Family Band consists of Mom and
Dad, Janette and Dan, son Kyle, age twelve, and nine year old daughter
Maura. All are highly accomplished musicians, both youngsters are
fiddle champions, and Kyle is also a champion yodeler. When this
family gets to picking and singing, I guarantee you’re going
to have a good time.
The family performs at RV parks, festivals, cowboy
poetry gatherings, and other events around the country when they
are not exploring new territory, visiting national parks, and teaching
the kids about our history by actually standing on the spots where
the cannons roared and following the routes of the early explorers.
Also included in this full-timing family adventure is Dan’s
77 year old mother Grandma Bonnie, who suffered a stroke ten years
ago that left her an invalid. "Grandma Bonnie is such an important
part of our family that we could not imagine not taking her with
us," Janette said. The love and good times this family shares
is obvious, and getting to know them was a real treat.
